What is your favourite way to spend your down time?

Family time with my wife, children and grandchildren. Spending time in my caravan and camping with my family. Spending time in my shed tinkering.

How does working at Wilsons fit in around your life outside of work?

You have to be flexible, I always help out where I can.

How has WMS helped with your career development?

I was a sugar cane farmer before mining. WMS has helped me gain experience in all different aspects of mining on many sites in QLD. I have done courses e.g. S123, G2, Trainer/Assessor, Auditing which has helped me and many of our staff with their career development.

What is your proudest achievement since starting work with WMS?

Working on and supervising many difficult chemical jobs from restanding chocks at Cook Colliery, large Rocsil jobs at Grosvenor Mine, stopping water egress and sealing with both OUR and HB Micon at Kestrel. But I think sealing of NGC 9th Block of late with remote Rocsil pumping from the surface has been my proudest and most challenging.

What has been the best part about working at WMS?

Helping and training our staff at WMS. Mentoring our staff on all different types of underground mining.

What are the challenges?

Trying to keep a good home life, while working away from home. I am very lucky to have a good understanding wife to help me with this.

What do you see as the best thing happening at WMS on the horizon?

We need to look after our existing staff and contracts, which will keep us number 1 in our ground support consolidation business.
