Gordon Draper is excited to move into the role of General Manager and contribute to the future success of the business. Gordon started in the underground mining industry in 2010 as an Operator and quickly progressed to Supervisor within 2 years. Gordon has more recently held the role of QLD Operations Coordinator and then QLD Operations Manager.
Last week Wilson Mining sent Simon Lovell, Steve Mead and Will Beverley to Tasmania, where they were involved with the Cornwall Coal (Blackwood Mine) BLS recovery. Rocsil was installed around prebuilt steel set supports to allow the mine safe access for men and machinery to reclaim BLS. The job was executed to a high standard and the client was extremely happy with the performance of the Rocsil foam around the steel sets. Well done to everyone involved.
Wilson mining is expanding its product offering through the recent Australian approval and licencing issued by the NSW DPIE of its new silicate resin product, Marisil E.
Manufactured by Weber Mining, the exclusive Wilson supplier of all the high performance ground control technology, Marisil is a two part silicate polyisocyanate resin system used for strata consolidation and ground reinforcement by injection to penetrate and consolidate cracks and fissures.
Marisil supplements the existing injection products, Marithan and Fenoflex but as our first silicate resin it gives Wilson mining a complete range, meaning our products can solve any and all strata consolidation needs effectively and at the best bang for buck.
The expanded suite of Wilson Mining products means that our clients now have a choice when selecting the right product for each application. Wilson mining continues to build its range of products in Australia with the support of Weber Mining and together we are bringing solutions to both the coal and hard rock markets. Well done to all our teams at Wilson Mining and Weber Mining who together are bringing new ideas to solve old problems.
Last week Wilson Mining got creative and took our quarterly crew talks online! Everyone from Corporate, NSW and QLD operations dialled into Bluejeans, to be given a business update by Tony Caruso (MD) with a total of 52 participants. Even though we couldn’t meet face-to-face, we met our goal of coming together and keeping everyone updated!
Earlier this year, Wilson Mining joined MyneSight Training RTO: 31900 to officially open the Underground Coal Mining Simulation training centre in Wollongong. Simon Lovell Product Application Specialist, set up Wilson Mining’s training chocks in the simulated environment. He demonstrated how miners can learn how to install brattice shuddering for longwall cavities and the pumping of Rocsil, PUR, Fenoflex and Marisil.
We would like to share the highlights from using our Rocsil product at CSD Tin recently!
Positive feedback was received from the client who was extremely impressed with the mobilisation and execution of the project. 570M3 was injected into a cavity. This allowed the client to get back on rehab work of the decline 4 to 6 weeks sooner than alternative methods.
Mastermyne Group Limited is pleased to announce that it has signed a conditional acquisition agreement for the purchase of all the shares of Wilson Mining Pty Ltd (“WM”).
Mastermyne CEO, Tony Caruso said “WM is a highly specialised underground business that has a niche service offering predominately in the longwall ground consolidation area. This business pioneered the introduction of phenolic cavity fill and injection products which has greatly improved the safety and productivity of longwalls in Australia. WM and Mastermyne have a long history of working together to provide chemical injection and installation support to the Australian underground coal sector and the acquisition of WM fits well with our growth strategy of providing niche, value adding underground services to our existing clients. WM’s highly valued services are a smart bolt-on which complements and enhances the Mastermyne suite of services, all of which are essential for the continuation of underground longwall and mining operations.

A fine job by the Wilson Mining team who got involved with the planning for a BLS recovery task.
Mobilisation to site was undertaken despite Covid complications.
Cavity filling was completed successfully and the BLS were safely and efficiently recovered from a difficult situation.
Well done lads!
The team at Wilsons were engaged at Bulga on a permanent basis to install Micon seals and bulkheads, emergency cavity filling on the longwall face and many other tasks associated with our longwall mine. In all my dealings with Wilsons I found the team to be extremely professional, helpful and the experience they demonstrate with all their products and procedures is of the highest standard. The workforce was very well trained and led extremely well by their site and shift supervisors.
Wilson Mining are Austar’s contractor of choice when it comes to important ventilation devices such as longwall seals. The Micon sealing system has proved over many years to be the best sealing system in challenging conditions where goaf sealing is critical for mine safety and ongoing production.
Strategic Corporate Training has worked closely with WM on the development and implementation of their Trainee Mineworker Program. The program is a fantastic opportunity for new starters in the coal industry and demonstrates the professionalism of WM in providing quality services for their clients and embedding a strong safety culture within their workforce.
